We didn't do any research or work today. We went on several temple tours and had a traditional Khmer dinner (I was forced to use chop sticks for the first time!). We visited three temples:
1) Angkor Wat, which is the largest religious complex in the world and was built in the 12th century.
2) Ta Prohm, which is known for being in the jungle and overcome with trees. It was built between the 12th and 13th centuries. It was also a filming location for the movie Tomb Raider.
3)Bayon, which is known for its massive stone heads and faces.
I'll talk more about these next week.
Through Lehigh University’s Comparative and International Education Program, Mrs. Dougherty-Wade will be travelling to Cambodia from November 2nd to November 13th. While there, she will be visiting the Aranh Cuthbert Jr. High School which associated with an organization called Caring for Cambodia. During her trip, this blog will create a communication link between Mrs. Dougherty-Wade and her students at North Schuylkill Jr/Sr High School. At any time, feel free to ask questions or comment on her blog posts.
These are some really good pics!
ReplyDeleteit seems like the builings are built with a ton of creativity. I really like the Bayon, the faces seem like they were carved with great detail. I hope you are enjoying your trip, we miss you as our teacher but mr.heimbuch is a great teacher too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Megan! I have a ton more that I will show when I get back!
ReplyDeleteThe buildings are very creative! Every inch has some elaborate design or carving. They were very impressive.
